We at the Totalskincare.com blog are always trying to feed you, our loyal readers and customers as much information as we can on a daily basis.  Whether this is through analysis of cutting edge ingredients that have come to market, or by revealing what the latest treatments are, we are always trying to keep you informed.  However every so often we like to take a step back and write an article for the masses, not just the high level skincare consumer.  Not only to remind you of some pretty elementary stuff, but also to remind us, the writers.  And so today our topic is 5 easy ways to keep looking your best.

Human Beings start to age almost immediately after birth. Every day of our lives we shed the outer most layer of the skin and regenerate new skin cells at the inner most level. How quick this process takes changes over time from very rapidly when we are young to much slower when we grow older.

Here are 6 general steps to help you keep looking your best.

1: Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water.  Not soda, coffee or sports drinks. Just plain old water. Many of the mainstream beverages on the market contain a high level of sodium. Sodium retains fluids and you need to flush those fluids to free your body of toxins.  Everyones benchmark should be to drink at least 8 glasses of water a day.

2: Protect your skin from the sun even when its cloudy.  Everyone loves the being in the sun and having that glowing tan. But as we know the sun is your skins worst enemy.. Ultra violet rays from the sun are the leading cause of skin cancer which is the main reason to avoid them, however too much sun exposure over time causes your skin to age faster than it would normally.  And too much sun exposure can contribute to sun spots, and fine lines and wrinkles. Everyone no matter what age should apply an SPF of 20 or higher before leaving the house in the morning.

3: Clean your facial skin twice a day.  Not with soap but with a gentle facial cleanser with some form of exfoliator.  This will help speed up the process of skin turnover.

4: Eating healthy is important. Knowing how and what to eat, can make a huge difference in how you feel and how you look. Improper eating habits can cause, weight gain, illness and an overall lethargy.

Weight gain causes your skin to stretch. As you get older, it loses it's elasticity and you could be left with sagging skin.  The best solution to this is to maintain a proper weight.

The formula is easy.  Just don't eat more calories than you burn off in a single day.  To help out that ratio try and do something physical for at least 30 minutes per day. This can be three ten minute walks, 30 minutes of vigorous aerobics, or 12 minutes of weight lifting with 18 minutes of walking.

5: Don't worry, be happy. A happy outlook appears to trigger the release of endorphins. Endorphins relax the cardiovascular system and cytokinins which alert the immune system to pay attention to detecting abnormalities like cancer cells. Outer beauty and inner joy go hand in hand.  Just remember that getting older doesn't have to mean getting old and you sure don't have to look like it.
