Definition of the Day:
Dark circles: Dark circles under the eye occur as people get older. Some people think that they occur because they are either tired, or as a result of sun exposure. This is not typically the case. Sometimes the dark spots can be hormonal, but often they are just hereditary. Sometimes the dark spots are caused by the reflections or shadows cast by the bulges of fat that occur naturally in the lower eyelids as people get older. If the bulging of fat is the cause of the dark circles under the eyes, then cosmetic surgery to remove the fat bags is the only approach that is typically effective, other than concealer makeup. President Clinton is a classic example of someone who exhibits this problem. True dark circles can be treated with bleaching agents. Unfortunately these are not always effective. Some dermatologist also recommend Vitamin K creams to be used with the bleaching agent. Alexandrite and Neodynium Yag lasers are often found to reduce dark circles.

Basal Cell Skin Cancer
Basal cell skin cancer is the most common skin cancer in man. It is a direct effect of prolonged and repeated sun exposure. Basal cell skin cancers can appear as a wound or ulcer that does not heal, or areas of the skin which are very red and raised. They typically do not spread and are rarely the source of peopleメs demise. They are treated with direct excision by a dermatologist or a plastic surgeon. Prevention of skin cancer is critical and if there are any questions about your skin you should be evaluated immediately. Products such as those sold at totalskincare.com will help prevent the progress to skin cancer from many precancerous conditions. Regular skin care regimens including alpha hydroxy acids, topical Vitamin C, and the newer products such as Kinerase and AHAVA are very helpful in increasing the turnover rate of the skin and increasing the collagen levels in the skin which promotes skin health.
