Definition of the Day:

Astringent: This is a typically clear liquid containing primarily alcohol with other acids such as boric acid. Usually this is used to tighten or shrink pores. These products are often toxic when ingested because they usually contain denatured alcohol. These products generally are used to help remove excess oil from the skin and function in a similar way as toners do. Most over the counter astringents have a witch hazel or alcohol base and should not be used on dry skin.
